Volunteers (JULY – JANUARY)

What to expect:

Our program combines work, education and leisure. Apart from meaningful tasks, you can expect outstanding cultural connections and regular fun activities.

What kind of work you’ll be doing:

Recurring chores include:Our sea turtle work encompasses the following:
– helping out around the project site
– sustainability projects
– community projects (e.g. english classes)
– gardening and forest management
– social media, painting etc.
– go on night patrols (~3 hours)
– relocate nests
– check and maintain the hatchery
– release hatchlings
– help with nest exhumations

Remember:

  • Sea turtle nesting peaks between mid August and mid November, with most nests hatching between October and January. During that time, we mainly work in the afternoon and at night.
  • Whenever sea turtle activity is low, we focus on other chores like gardening, general maintenance, DIY and creativity, data management, ecotourism promotion, content creation etc.

What benefits you’ll get:

  • sleep on a comfy bed in our rustic wooden cabin (2-3 persons per cabin) with a shared bathroom outside
  • cook your own breakfast & lunch together with the other project participants (we provide the food!)
  • receive a Nica-style dinner
  • have 1 night off per week that you can spend @MEMANTA for free or somewhere else at your own cost
  • take part in our weekly activity schedule with spanish lessons, fun team challenges, mini excursions and more
  • have enough free time to relax and explore the surroundings

Specific requirements:

– minimum stay of 1 week

The program fee covers:

+ shared accommodation in our cabin
+ food for preparing breakfast and lunch, plus a served dinner
+ unlimited drinks (water, juice, coffee, tea)
+ educational activities, entertainment and fun trips
+ training, supervision and support
+ contribution to the sea turtle program (we pay for the nests we protect!)

PICTURES CABIN

Our cabins have NO electricity. But they are gorgeous anyway, aren’t they? Sleeping spaces are equipped with mosquito nets, cabinets, mini rechargeable fans and solar lamps.

PICTURES BATHROOM

Our toilet and shower work without running water. But who needs that when you have a well and a bucket?

PICTURES RANCHO

The Rancho has electricity and the kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, an oven and a fridge.

A TYPICAL DAY

How to pay:

In order to confirm your booking, we ask for a deposit of 200 USD via Moneygram or Wise.
The rest of the fee is to be paid on the day of your arrival.

We’ll send you all the transaction details.
